Sandhill Cranes are current in Florida as a consequence of a mixture of appropriate habitat, migratory patterns, and established resident populations. The supply of wetlands, open prairies, and agricultural fields offers ample foraging and nesting alternatives for these massive birds.
Florida provides each wintering grounds for migratory subspecies and year-round habitat for non-migratory populations, particularly the Florida Sandhill Crane. The state’s comparatively delicate local weather and ample assets contribute to the persistence and success of those crane populations. Traditionally, these birds have occupied the area, and conservation efforts have additional supported their continued presence.
